My journey since becoming a Member of Parliament
Born and raised in South Wales, it is an honour to represent the community I grew up in. Since being elected MP for Swansea East in 2015, I have had a proud career as an all-action campaigner.
In Parliament, I have successfully worked to lower the stakes on fixed-odds betting terminals (FOBTs) and created a children’s funeral fund for bereaved families in memory of my son Martin, who passed away at eight years old. Currently, I champion the menopause revolution, seeking greater support for women experiencing symptoms and better awareness of menopause. Recently, I have been campaigning for menopause to be included in NHS health checks, arguing that it would be cost-neutral and could prevent unnecessary GP visits. I also continue to push for workplace policies that support women experiencing menopause, ensuring they receive fair treatment and opportunities to thrive in their careers.
Locally, I have spearheaded the "Everyone Deserves" campaign, which provides hampers and cooked meals to families in need across South Wales during the festive seasons and summer holidays. Last year, we delivered around 1,500 hampers to families at Christmas, and with the support of local businesses and volunteers, we aim to reach even more this year.
Following the 2024 boundary changes in the UK, I now represent the newly formed constituency of Neath and Swansea East. Since being elected I am focused on getting to know the new areas within the constituency and building relationships with the community. I am committed to being more than just a representative in Parliament; I aim to be a friend and a partner to every resident. I will work hand in hand with you to rebuild and strengthen our communities, ensuring that Neath and Swansea East becomes an even better place for all of us.
